A client who is trying to describe a panic attack in Polish, or to explain what her mother expects of her in Romanian, is rarely looking for an English-speaking therapist with an interpreter sitting in the room. She is looking for someone who works in the language she thinks in.
Seek A Psych is being rebuilt around exactly that: therapists across the UK who practise in languages other than English. It is a small directory, deliberately. Nothing is published here until the practitioner has asked to be on it and their registration has been checked.
Listing is free, and it stays free. No fee is charged for a standard listing, and nothing already published will be billed retrospectively. If paid placement ever arrives on this site it will be an option alongside the free listing, not a replacement for it.
Who can be listed
You, if you are a counsellor, psychotherapist or psychologist practising in the UK and you offer sessions in at least one language other than English. You may be registered with a UK body, registered abroad, or in training under supervision. What will not happen is that you are presented as accredited when you are not: the profile says what was actually checked.
What we check before your profile goes live
Every listing carries the register you are on and your number, and we look that up on the register itself before publishing. If you are registered outside the UK the profile says so, in those words. If you are not registered anywhere, the profile says that too, and you can still be listed. A directory is only worth reading if somebody has actually looked.
What we ask for
Your name as you practise, the languages you work in, where you practise and whether you also work online, what you work with, how you work, your fee if you publish one, a couple of sentences under your name, a longer description, and a photo if you want one.
Do send a photo if you are happy to be seen. On a therapy directory it is not decoration: it changes whether someone makes contact. Send one you own the rights to, because nothing is lifted from your own site or from LinkedIn.
How your details are handled
Your email address, and your phone number if you give one, are used to verify the listing and to write to you about it. They are not published on your profile, and client enquiries come to you through the website link you give us rather than through this site. Details of a listing that does not go ahead are removed on request. Our privacy policy sets out the rest.
If something here is wrong
If a listing misrepresents someone, or you want your own profile corrected or taken down, tell us and it will be dealt with. A listing can be removed at any point, for any reason, and without an argument.
